Apply Now for the 2009 CIC Leadership Institute! 
October 2008
CIC2020 is now recruiting student leaders from all disciplines to become part of the spring semester's cohort of the CIC Leadership Institute.
A select group of Binghamton University undergraduate and
graduate students will have the opportunity to enroll in a unique
course focused on leadership, civic entrepreneurship, and economic
development. Officially titled, "Proseminar in Civic
Entrepreneurship", the four credit course is cross listed as HDEV 435, HARP480P, and MASS580D. For the fourth
consecutive year, CIC2020 is looking to create an

CIC2020 Director to Move into the Greater Binghamton Innovation Center 
October 2008
Inspired by her involvement in CIC2020 and her
undergraduate education in bioengineering, Kathryn Fletcher has become an entrepreneur, leading
H2 Innovations, a start-up company dedicated to developing new and innovative
approaches to enhance community awareness.
As one of the first tenants in Broome County's
newly built business incubator, Kathryn and her team are excited to
take part in the
county and state's effort to create opportunities in the area. An

CIC2020 Announces The
1st Annual Binghamton Blowout Block Party!
September 2008
CIC2020 and the City of Binghamton are pleased to present The Binghamton Blowout Block Party. Community,
university,
and students leaders are working together to coordinate a one-of-a-kind event that
aims to showcase the offerings of both Binghamton University and the
Greater Binghamton community. It will be held 4:00pm-9:00pm on Friday, September 19th in Downtown
Binghamton. There will be food, live music,
comedy acts, contests, raffles, tours, art, and more! See B3P for more details.

Held to Honor the Graduates of the 2008 CIC Leadership Institute
(CIC-LI)
May 2008
On
May 9, 2008, university and community leaders joined CIC2020 for a
capstone event where the CIC-LI graduates presented highlights of their
semester-long endeavor, "The Confluence Project". The
students'
individual integrative research focused on four main topics: Housing
and Development, University and Community Relations, Signage and
Greenspace, & Downtown Mainstreet Development. To see

Director Kathryn Fletcher Recognized for Undergraduate Student
Excellence
April 2008
Kathryn
has received the distinction of Honorable Mention for the 2008
University
Awards for Undergraduate Student Excellence. The award
honors students who have enriched the Binghamton University Community
through a record of accomplishment and leadership in such areas as
scholarship, research, teaching, and campus and community service, all
of which reflect the University's purposes and priorities.
Part I of CIC
Career Partnership Launched
March 2008
CIC2020's
greatest undertaking since the creation of the CIC Leadership
Institute,
their new initiative, the CIC Career Partnership, represents
another tool to accomplish their mission.
By facilitating mentorships between professionals in Greater
Binghamton and students at Binghamton University, the
project will
provide community members with the opportunity to engage with the
creative young minds as well as give students an appealing and
non-traditional outlet to learn about career options
and the “real world”. CIC2020 is
currently developing
a database of mentors and expects the program to be available to
students in the Fall 2008 Semester. See CIC-CP for more

First
Class of the 2008 CIC Leadership Institute Held at Binghamton City Hall
February 2008
To
start off the semester, the 2008 CIC-LI traveled to Mayor Matt Ryan's
offices and met with him and other city leaders. Students
broke up into four research teams and, together with their community
coaches, they began work on a semester long class project that will
compile individualized research related to community and economic
development challenges along the confluence corridor in Binghamton, New
York. Termed "The Confluence Project", this
undertaking involves collaboration with area leaders to produce
concepts that are actionable in the future. Students will
present
their findings at the 2008 CIC-LI Graduation Reception on May 9th.
CIC Director Josh Kay Appointed to Young Leaders
Congress
January 2008
The
Young Leaders Congress was formed as a result of the I Live NY summit
held in September. Josh, and the other young professionals in
the
group, were appointed by Ms. Silda Wall Spitzer to help
address the outflux of youth from Upstate New York.

CIC
2020 Recruits 2008 Leadership Institute
December 2007
In
the Spring 2008 Semester, CIC 2020 will administer the third year of a
4 credit course that familiarize
students with
the many economic facets of Greater Binghamton and matches student
leaders with
community leaders from business, political, and cultural sectors.
Students were
selected based on their scholastic aptitude,
passion, and leadership potential. Congratulations
to the
members of the 2008 CIC Leadership Institute!

Directors Meet with CIC 2020 Founder Jason Kaye
September 2007
One of CIC 2020's
founding members, Jason Kaye,
returned to visit
faculty advisor Diane Crews and meet this years directors,
Josh Kay and Kathryn Fletcher. With the
group approaching its fifth year in existence, its directorate
has faced a complete turnover. Despite this
challenge, CIC
2020 has maintained its focus and continues to build upon
the foundation left by the original founders.
The
First Lady Silda Wall Spitzer Hosts "I
Live New York" Summit
September 2007
On
September 18, 2007,
representatives of CIC 2020 attended
the I Live New York
summit, an event that brought together key stakeholders from across the
state to look at the economic, cultural, and educational forces that
create job opportunity, promote entrepreneurship, and develop livable
communities. Workshops focused on
regional best practices and facilitated collaborative strategies to
retain and attract New York's next generation.
Catalyst
for Innovation 2007 Forum at BU
September 2007
On
September 12, 2007,
Binghamton University's Watson School
of Engineering and the Southern
Tier Opportunity Coalition hosted a forum to identify
technology-based needs and solutions. The first ever Catalyst
for Innovation event succeeded in bringing together local
technology businesses such as IBM, Endicott
Interconnect, Lockheed Martin, Ensco, Diamond Visionics and many others
with University staff in order to explore challenges facing technology
companies and solutions that can be developed through partnership.

2020 Meets with Silda Wall Spitzer

In
September, New York’s
First Lady,
Silda Wall Spitzer, plans to host a summit meeting examining the exodus
of young people from the state. The
Brain Drain initiative will focus
on the flight of the "next generation" that has been widely recognized
as a pervasive trend, especially Upstate.
