CIC2020 Presents: The
Partnership for Knowledge Entrepreneurship
Together,
the 2009 CIC-LI formed a conceptualization of how to manage
intellectual capital in order to create an environment that fosters
innovation. Their research for the Partnership for Knowledge
Entrepreneurship revolved around four key themes: connect, engage, educate, and innovate.

CIC2020 Celebrates the
Culmination of the 2009 CIC Leadership Institute!
On
Monday, May 11th, more than 80 business, civic, academic, and
government leaders gathered to hear the 2009 CIC-LI present The
Partnership for
Knowledge Entrepreneurship, a conceptualization of how to manage
intellectual capital in order to create an environment that fosters
innovation and promotes economic development. To culminate a
semester of exploring the community and discussing its challenges with
area leaders, the students reported out on their findings and shared
highlights of their research. The presentation focused on
ways
to engage the University with local businesses and organizations,
emphasizing that in a Knowledge Economy, it is essential to collaborate

Communiversity Fest to be held in September 2009
Given,
the success of the Binghamton Blowout

both the students and local
community) for an encore, last year’s coordinators have
decided to host another

CIC-LI Learns about
Academic/Private Sector Partnerships

On
Friday,
the 2009 CIC Leadership Institute embarked on their last trip of the
semester. To gain a better understanding of the
University's
existing industry partners, the CIC-LI met with leaders of Endicott Interconnect
Technologies, Inc. and The Center of Excellence in
Small Scale Systems Integration and Packaging (S3IP) at Binghamton
Unversity.

Progress Launches Regional Workforce Action Plan

Representatives
from CIC2020 joined stakeholders from across the Southern Tier to
support P4P's Regional Workforce Action Plan
which highlights
five main strategies to attract and retain talent: fostering a regional
identity,
educating and attracting a talented workforce, targeting and supporting
industries with high growth potential, building entrepreneurial
capacity in the region, and embracing arts, culture, recreation, and
entertainment as regional assets.

Promotion, and Communication

media outlets and the students of CIC2020's
Leadership Institute all gathered
at WSKG for a roundtable discussion on the role media can play in
attracting and retaining young professionals in the area.

On Friday, April 3rd, the CIC
Leadership Institute traveled to Tioga County where they met
representatives from the Tioga
County Department of Economic Development, The Waterman Conservation Center, The
Links Hiawatha Landing, Wilderness
Way, Tioga County Tourism, and the
Tioga County Historical Society.
CIC-LI Explores Housing and
Real Estate in Binghamton

As
the students in the CIC-LI continue their semester-long research for
the Partnership for
Knowledge Entrepreneurship,
on March 27th, they met with local developers, historians, and
preservationists. Among the topics discussed was the role the
housing market could/does have in attracting and retaining young
professionals in Binghamton.

Strengthening
University-Community Ties Through Sports and Events

On
March 20th, the CIC-LI spent the afternoon at the Broome County Arena
where they had the opportunity to meet with managers and event
coordinators representing the Broome County Arena and
Forum, the Binghamton Senators
Hockey and Mets Baseball, the Spiedie
Fest & Balloon Rally, the Dick's
Sporting Goods Open, the July Fest, and the Binghamton University Events Center.

and State

On
Friday, March 13th, students in the CIC Leadership Institute gathered
with several of this region's political leaders at the Greater
Binghamton Innovation Center to continue their research of the Partnership for Knowledge
Entrepreneurship. The afternoon's discussion
focused on university-community partnerships in the context of economic
development.

CIC-LI visited Binghamton General Hospital and heard from presenters
and panelists representing United Health Services, Lourdes
Hospital, Broome County Office of Emergency Services,
Southern
Tier Health Link, and Ideal
Senior Living Center.

Students
from CIC2020, along with Binghamton University administrators, faculty,

took a field trip to Lockheed Martin in Owego, NY on February 20th.
After a tour of the facility, the CIC-LI
participated in
discussion with a panel of the company's leaders.
CIC-LI Session Focuses on
Technology, Entrepreneurship and Innovation

On
February 13th, the CIC-LI met at the Innovative Technology
Complex to
conceptualize the Partnership for Knowledge Entrepreneurship.
Together, the students and professionals from Greater
Binghamton
discussed how 21st century academic-private sector partnerships can be
used to fully utilize technology, support entrepreneurship, and fuel
innovation.
CIC Leadership Institute Meets with University and Community Leaders

On
February 6th, the CIC-LI engaged with twenty professionals representing
various businesses and organizations in the community.
Together,
they explored possible processes,
programs, initiatives, resources, and partnerships that can be created
or applied in order to
fully utilize human capital in the Southern Tier. The
students
will continue to shape their individual research throughout the
semester and ultimately present a proposal for the Partnership for
Knowledge Entrepreneurship to the public on May 11, 2009. Click

first of their weekly "field trips" into the community, the students
took a walking tour of Downtown Binghamton led by Doug Camin, former
President of the Southern Tier Young Professionals and founder of Avant
IT Consulting, Inc.

For the
fourth consecutive year, CIC2020 is conducting the CIC Leadership
Institute. Throughout
the spring of 2009, a select team of 20 students will engage
with leaders of the community and university and undertake a semester
long research project: the Partnership for Knowledge Entrepreneurship (PKE).
